We asked writer, content ideator and tarot reader Jason Menezes about his craft blogger ambitions and memories of childhood stationery stores.
Q. What profession would you switch to for the stationery you get to play with?
A. I really want to do whatever Sea Lemon does, right. Sea Lemon is this art, craft, creativity blogger on YouTube and she has built an empire doing things that she loves. I think my passion and my interest in stationery just grows leaps and bounds every time I watch a Sea Lemon video. And I think in a way it is also satisfying to watch someone else do the hauls, because if I gather that much stationery, I think I wouldn’t have space to store it.
So yes, probably be an art and craft blogger. But you know, honestly, you need talent for that and I have fat fingers so I’m not sure how far I would get with it. So maybe I should just stick to writing!
I would never, never, never go back and change it!
Q. Tell us about a stationery store you visited often as a child.
A. There’s a stationery store called ‘Fantasy Collections.’ It’s in Malad which is in Orlem, it’s a tiny little thing near the bazaar, and once you walk in, it’s stacked full of everything you can imagine and everything you would need. They’re not luxury items, but the Fantasy Collection had all the things that you needed, and then there were always these little trinkets that caught your eye.
So they used to stock these video games and I remember that I once bullied my father into getting me one of those key chain video games. And yeah, it didn’t last very long but I really have very fond memories of it and I would never, never, never go back and change it!
Q. What’s a specific item of stationery you’d never part with?
A. Now, again speaking about the store (‘Fantasy Collections’). I want to actually show you what that piece of stationery is. It’s this compass-rounder thing that I got from that store itself. And the thing about it is that it actually has this thing that you can roll on top and it expands, and it was actually the only set that I had at that time. It was unique because nobody else had it and so I felt really fancy in school owning this pair of compass.
Let’s love stationery together and keep ourselves in check! Till the next time, bye.
